Saturday morning session events

Performing for a conference congregation for the last time, the Mormon Youth Chorus opened the first session of general conference, Saturday, April 3, with a stirring rendition of "The Morning Breaks."

On this crisp, snowy April morning, director Robert C. Bowden stood before the chorus "in what may be his final presentation in this capacity," said President Gordon B. Hinckley, who also commended chorus members.

President Hinckley conducted this first session of the 169th Annual General Conference. He welcomed those gathered in the Tabernacle, in overflow facilities in the Assembly Hall and nearby Joseph Smith Memorial Building, as well as those listening via Church satellite. Adorning the pulpit were Easter lilies and pink and yellow hydrangea.

Offering the invocation and benediction, respectively, were Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Presidency of the Seventy and Elder Carl B. Pratt of the Seventy.
