Porto Alegre Brazil Temple: Facts and figures

Location: Northern zone of Porto Alegre, Chacara das Pedras, calle General Salvador Pieiro # 50.

Temple presidency: Lynn A. Sorensen, president; Tupinanba Miguel Da Silva and Jose Mario Nues, counselors.

Rooms: Celestial Room, two ordinance rooms, two sealing rooms and a baptistry.

Exterior: Cotton white granite from Ceara State of Brazil.

Size: The lot is 2 acres; the temple is 13,325 square feet; and is 162 feet by 82 feet.

Architect: Andre Belo de Faria.

Contractor: Ernesto Woebcke of Porto Alegre.

District: Twenty-seven stakes and four districts in the Rio Grande do Sul State, and the south of Santa Catarina State, including some 58,000 members.

Pertinent facts: Announced Oct. 4, 1997; groundbreaking May 2, 1998; open house Dec. 2-9, 2000, except Sunday, Dec. 3, attended by 25,324 people. Dedicated Dec. 17, 2000, by President Gordon B. Hinckley, with 7,590 people attending four sessions; opened for ordinance work Dec. 18, 2000.
