Spotlight on historic sites: Cutler's Park

A monument, surrounded by trees and flowers and standing in a park in Florence, Neb., three miles southwest of Winter Quarters, marks the site of the first Mormon community in Nebraska. The settlement, called Cutler's Park, was organized in 1846 with about 2,500 early Latter-day Saints and served as headquarters camp for the Church. Months later, the settlers moved the camp to higher ground, what became the well-known Winter Quarters settlement.

The monument and the park were dedicated by President Boyd K. Packer in 1997.
