CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND — The Library Association of England has presented a Library Association Reference Award to the Church for its Index to the 1881 Census on CD-ROM. The award was presented Sept. 13 in Cambridge, England, during a conference of the National Acquisitions Group.
The 1881 index was produced in May of 1995 after nearly a decade of work. The project was done in conjunction with the Federation of Family History Societies in England. Volunteers spent an estimated 1.4 million hours on the extensive project.
The Church was presented with the Besterman/McColvin Medal in the electronic category for the index.
