The First Presidency has called nine new Missionary Training Center presidents who will begin their service in January 2002.
The new leaders and their wives are:
Frank Edward Berrett, 70, currently serving in the Dominican Republic MTC; former president of the Colombia Barranquilla Mission and stake president. He worked in the timber industry as an owner and manager before retirement. He was born to Floyd and Josephine Barrett. Married Irene Beth Fullmer, daughter of David and Hazel Riggs Fullmer.

Stephen Merrill Hadley, 69, Bountiful 25th Ward, Bountiful Utah South Stake; assigned to Ghana MTC; former mission president of Canada Toronto East and Cleveland Ohio missions, bishop; earned law degree from University of Utah Law School; worked as chairman of Industrial Commission for State of Utah. Born to Lawrence and Emily LaVon Farr Hadley. Married Shirley Marie Ward, parents of seven children.

Paul Ashton Hanks, 63, Capitol Hill 2nd Ward, Salt Lake Stake; assigned to New Zealand MTC; is a former president of Texas Dallas Mission, stake president and bishop; earned doctorate in education from University of Southern California and worked in Church Education System. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lincoln Fram and Emma Fidkin Ashton Hanks. Married Jean Palmer, parents of six children.

Nephi Gaylon Hopkins, 62, Green Valley 11th Ward, St. George Utah Green Valley Stake; assigned to Guatemala MTC; former president of Venezuela Valencia Mission, bishop and counselor in stake presidency. Earned masters degree from Southern Oregon State College in sociology and worked in Church Educational System. Born in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Nephi Christian and Martha Grace Moore Hopkins. Married Margaret Ann Childers, parents of eight children.

Thomas Edgar Lyon, 62, Edgemont 12th Ward, Provo Utah Edgemont South Stake; assigned to Chile MTC; former president of Chile Osorno Mission and bishop. Earned doctorate in Spanish from University of California at Los Angeles and employed as a professor. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to T. Edgar and Laura Hermana Forsberg Lyon. Married Cheryl Elma Larsen, parents of five children.

Byung Kyu Pak, 64, Ilsan Ward, Seoul Korea North Stake; assigned to Korea MTC; stake patriarch and former president of Seoul Korea Temple and Korea Pusan Mission. Earned masters degree in American literature in Chunnam University and employed as a school teacher. Born in Hampyung, Chunnam, Korea, to Bong Un Pak and Yi Nyun Seo. Married Young Ji Rhee, parents of three children.

Arthur Leroy Porter, 58, Cedar City 16th Ward, Cedar City Utah West Stake; assigned to Argentina MTC; former president in Venezuela Maracaibo Mission, bishop and counselor in stake presidency. Earned masters of business administration degree from Stanford University and worked as a professor. Born in Santa Rosa, Calif., to Arthur C. and Beth Sargent Porter. Married Elaine Agren, parents of six children.

Richard Gordon Porter, 64, Citrus Heights Ward, Mesa Arizona Citrus Heights Stake; assigned to Japan MTC; former president of the Japan Kobe Mission and stake president. Earned bachelor's degree in business from University of Utah and worked as an owner and partner of Trend Homes. Born in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Hyrum Preston and Jane Elizabeth Jolley Porter. Married Susan LaVelle Curtis, parents of seven children.

Alan Denton Rogers, 62, Valley View 12th Ward, Salt Lake Valley View Stake; assigned to Peru MTC; former president in the Colombia Barranquilla Mission and bishop. Graduated from the Columbia School of International Management and employed in the Church's Missionary Department. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Denton Spencer and Jessie Penrose Bradford Rogers. Married Kim Gerd Fedje, parents of five children.
