New mission presidents

Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. Here are their names and biographical information.

Nelson L. and Ester D. A. Altamirano

Nelson L. Altamirano, 52, Cardenas Ward, Panama Stake; director of operations for Toulnen Airport Cargo Service Center; received degrees in materials management and development supervision; born in Los Andes, Chile, to Secundino S. and Delia Lopez de Altamirano. Married Ester Dominici A.; four children. She has teaching and post graduate degrees in education from Panama University; born in Panama City, Panama, to Felix and Bertha L. Aresemena de Dominici.

Kathryn M. and C. Richard Chidester

Clinton Richard Chidester, 62, Bountiful 16th Ward, Bountiful Utah Heights Stake; CES instructor at the Salt Lake Institute adjacent to the University of Utah; received master's degree and doctorate from Brigham Young University; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clinton Al and Jessie Mildred Redden Chidester. Married Kathryn Midgley; eight children. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in English; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Rushby Carl and Margaret Fuller Midgley.

Nancy C. and Joseph V. Cook

Joseph Vernon Cook, 65, Brush Creek Ward, Santa Rosa California Stake; chief medical officer of Health Plan of Redwoods; received bachelor's degree in English from Utah State University and medical doctor degree from the University of Utah; born in Brigham City, Utah, to Joseph Vernon and Cleo Bernice Kimball Cook. Married Nancy Louise Carlson; three children. She earned a bachelor's degree from Utah State University in English; born in Logan, Utah, to John and Ina Elvina Sorensen Carlson.

John P. and Jill G. Kennedy

John Paul Kennedy, 59, Yale 1st Ward, Salt Lake Bonneville Stake; attorney with Durham, Jones & Pinegar; received juris doctor degree from Stanford University and an undergraduate degree in social relations from Harvard; born in Minneapolis, Minn., to Thomas Michael Sr. and Eleanor Hildur Carlson Kennedy. Married Jill Amelia Giuliani; six children. She earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Harvard; born in Berwyn, Ill., to Chester Joseph and Ann Sedoric Giuliani.

Deanna D. and Tim D. Martin

Tim Donald Martin, 55, Great Falls Ward, McLean Virginia Stake; earned bachelor's degree in engineering at U.S. Naval Academy, and master's of business administration at George Washington University; president of Tim D. Martin & Associates; born in Fresno, Calif., to Donald James and Marcene Mae Williams Martin. Married Deanna Dutton; six children. She attended Utah State University and is a financial officer at Tim D. Martin & Associates, born in LaVerkin, Utah, to James Elwin and Ruby Diantha Snow Dutton.

John K. and Kristy B. Pehrson

John Kay Pehrson, 53, Driggs 1st Ward, Driggs Idaho Stake; owner/partner of Teton Valley Lodge; earned bachelor's degree in German from Brigham Young University; born in Springville, Utah, to George Alvin and Margaret Etta Nielsen Pehrson. Married Kristy Blake; four children. She graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor's degree in home economics; managed food services as owner/partner of Teton Valley Lodge; born in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Frank Keith and Beth Reynolds Blake.

Peggy S. and Walter J. Plumb III

Walter Jenkins Plumb III, 55, Ensign 6th Ward, Salt Lake Ensign Stake; assigned to University of Utah 5th Stake; attorney/developer for Plumb & Dalton; received a bachelor's degree in accounting and a juris doctor degree from the University of Utah and a master's of law degree from New York University; born in Hammond, Ind., to Walter Jenkins Sr. and Dolly Cossman Plumb. Married Peggy Sonntag; nine children. She has studied education at the University of Utah; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Philip Tadje and Voloy Andreasen Sonntag.

Elizabeth F. and William W. Tanner

William Woodland Tanner, 65, Westwood 2nd Ward, Los Angeles California Stake; earned doctor of dentistry degree from the University of Southern California and is a dentist; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Henry Bernard and Edna Bertha Malan Tanner. Married Elizabeth Findlay; four children. She earned a nursing degree from the University of Utah; born in Kanab, Utah, to Lynn Farnsworth and Leota Nielsen Findlay.
