Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. Here are their names and biographical information.
Mervin B. and Carolyn J. Beckstrand
Mervin Bennett Beckstrand, 65, Meadow Ward, Fillmore Utah Stake, owner of Progressive Business Services; received bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in sociology; born in Meadow, Utah, to John Milton and Eva Lovell Beckstrand. Married Carolyn June Seiter; four children. She studied accounting at Stevens Henagar Business College and Brigham Young University, and was born in Provo, Utah, to Walter Harry and Alice June Facer Seiter.
Larry R. and Laurel S. Lawrence
Larry Ray Lawrence, 53, Alluvial Ward, Fresno California North Stake; ophthalmologist; received medical doctor's and bachelor's degrees from University of Arizona; born in Cheverly, Md., to Argil Ray and Mary Millicent Jenkins Lawrence. Married Laurel Stott, six children. She earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in sociology; born in Logan, Utah, to Gerald H and Erma Woodbury Stott.
Patricia Ann and S. Paul Carpenter
Stephen Paul Carpenter, 64, Rolling Valley Ward, Annandale Virginia Stake; senior engineer for Technology Management and Analysis Corp., earned bachelor's degree from University of Utah in electrical engineering, master's degree in mechanical engineering from U.S. Navy Postgraduate School, and certificate from Naval War College; born in Salt Lake City, to Kenneth Mosher and Ilah Eames Carpenter. Married Patricia Ann Hanley; four children. She earned an associate degree from Fresno State College and bachelor's degree in education from UCLA; born in Modesto, Calif., to Jack J. and Lillian Simons Hanley.
Deanna D. and Tim D. Martin
Tim Donald Martin, 55, Great Falls Ward, McLean Virgina Stake; earned bachelor's in engineering at U.S. Naval Academy, and master's of business administration at George Washington University; president of Tim D. Martin & Associates. Married Deanna Dutton; six children. She attended Utah State University and is a financial officer at Tim D. Martin & Associates, born in LaVerkin, Utah, to James Elwin and Ruby Diantha Snow Dutton.
James L. and Barbara N. McCarrey
James Lewis McCarrey III, 54, Anchorage 14th Ward, Anchorage Alaska North Stake; general counsel of McKinley Capital Management; bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from University of Utah; born in Anchorage, Alaska, to James Lewis Jr. and Cora Broadbent McCarrey.
