CAPE TOWN, South Africa — Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu was presented a framed copy of "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" and a copy of The Mission June 22 by public affairs officials of the Cape Town South Africa Stake. Bishop Tutu, who received the Church delegation in his Cape Town office, played a key role in the country's political transition process, becoming inseparably connected in people's minds with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and with the spirit of reconciliation generally. He accepted the book and proclamation graciously, commenting that he was very touched by this gesture of goodwill.
This was the second contact with the Church in a month for Bishop Tutu. About two to three weeks before the presentation, he received two missionaries, Elder Grant Wright of Salt Lake City and Elder Garrett Robins of Salina, Utah, at his home. He was recuperating from an operation and invited them in. He was very cordial with them, and they left him a Book of Mormon.
