Madagascar's first temple trip

ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar — Members of the Antananarivo Madagascar Stake had their first stake temple trip Dec. 18-24 to the Johannesburg South Africa Temple.

During the four days of temple sessions for the 33 members, 19 members received their own endowments, eight couples were sealed, and five families were sealed. In addition, there were 102 baptisms and confirmations for the dead, 88 initiatories, 40 endowments, seven sealings of spouses and 17 sealings to parents.

The members attending the temple came from the Anjanahary, Ampefiloha, Mahamasina, Ambohipo, Antananarivo and Analamahitsy wards and were accompanied by stake President Dominique Andriamanantoa and his wife, Claudia, and their son, Karl Ludwig, who was the first baby born under the covenant in Madagascar.

While in Johannesburg, the members attended a special devotional during in which Elder Steven E. Snow of the Seventy and a counselor in the Africa Southeast Area presidency addressed them. They also attended a fireside during which Elder Snow and Elder Robert C. Oaks of the Seventy and Africa Southeast Area president, spoke.

President Andriamanantoa said the trip "will have a strong and lasting impact on the Church in Madagascar."
