Member killed by sniper

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A nanny, Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera, the fifth victim of random violence in the suburbs of Washington D.C., was killed by a sniper while vacuuming out a minivan Oct. 2.

Sister Lewis-Rivera arrived in Washington from Mountain Home, Idaho, in the summer of 1996 with a suitcase in one hand and in the other, a three-ring binder, 5 inches thick with crafts, games and recipes for children, according to the Associated Press.

Her father said she had wanted to be a nanny since she was in junior high school, and when she ordered her first checks, she insisted that they be printed with "Professional Nanny."

At Church she met and married Nelson Rivera, a Honduran immigrant. They have a 3-year-old daughter.
