Following is a letter to Church members from the presidency of the New York New York Stake:
On behalf of members of the New York New York Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the literally thousands of Church members around the world who so generously contributed of themselves following the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
We gratefully acknowledge the many cards, letters, care packages, and other gifts received. We also express our deepest appreciation for the many unselfish offers of assistance and service.
The tremendous outpouring of love and concern has touched us deeply. While we have been unable to personally acknowledge each item, please know that many priesthood and auxiliary leaders have worked hard to distribute the personal letters and gifts to many fire and police stations, schools, and hospitals throughout the greater New York area.
Your example of Christlike love and service has blessed many lives. We unite with you in expressing our faith and hope in a loving Father in Heaven and in His Son Jesus Christ.
