Paul Kent Cropper, 76, former member of the Young Men general board, died Jan. 5, 2006, in Sandy, Utah. Brother Cropper served as a volunteer dentist at Primary Children's Hospital Dental Clinic and on the board of the BYU Academy of Dentists as well as the Utah State Board of Dentistry.
Lindsay R. Curtis, 89, president of the California Oakland Mission from 1977-1980, died Jan. 6, 2006, in St. George, Utah. He was also a former member of the Sunday School general board and a bishop.
Brother Curtis served in the Army Medical Corps at Walter Reed General Hospital as chief of the Women's Surgical Section. He was the first resident in OB-GYN in the newly established four-year medical school at the University of Utah after earning his M.D. from the University of Colorado in 1942. He helped establish the Ogden Women's Clinic and was president of the Ogden Surgical Society and president of the Utah State OB-GYN Society. He served on several statewide committees for the governor and was editor of the Utah State Medical Journal.
Harold Riley Johnson, 80, who presided over the Apia Samoa Temple from 1995 to 1997, died Dec. 27, 2005, in Mount Pleasant, Utah. He was also a former counselor in the presidency of the Manti Utah Temple. An educator, he served in the Church Educational System and was head of the Church College of Western Samoa. He was also a director of the American Cooperative School in Tunis, Tunisia, and was president of the Mediterranean Area International Schools Association. Active in Scouting, he was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
W. Cleon Skousen, 92, noted LDS scholar and author of 46 books, died Jan. 9, 2006, in Salt Lake City. Author of 46 books His writings reached millions of readers in religious communities.
Brother Skousen served for 16 years in the FBI as an agent and as communications director, and was Salt Lake City's police chief. He taught at BYU for 16 years. His study of the U.S. Constitution led to the creation of The Freeman Institute that later became the National Center for Constitutional Studies.
