Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Quorum of the Twelve

"Are we living with apprehension, fear and worry? Or have we amidst of all challenges, not reason to rejoice?"

As a child, growing up in war-torn Germany, he and his family learned about the "healing message" of the gospel. "This message made all the difference; it lifted us above our daily misery."

"Wherever you live on this earth, and whatever your life's situation may be, I testify to you that the gospel of Jesus Christ has the divine power to lift you to great heights from what appears at times to be an unbearable burden or weakness."

The "core elements" of the gospel are found in all the scriptures, but most clearly in the Book of Mormon and the "revelations to the Prophet Joseph Smith." In the Fourth Article of Faith, the "first principles and ordinances of the gospel" are outlined: faith, repentance, baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost.

Once baptized, members must "endure to the end" or stay "faithful to the laws and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout our life ... "

"Whatever your challenges may be, wherever you live on this Earth, your faithful membership ... and the divine powers of the gospel of Jesus Christ will bless you to endure joyfully to the end."
