Sister Julie B. Beck

Relief Society President

In the Book of Mormon story of the valorous stripling warriors the young men attributed their success in battle to the teachings of their mothers who, they said, knew the truth.

"The responsibility mothers have today has never required more vigilance. More than at any time in the history of the world, we need mothers who know." Children are being born into a world where they face the powers of darkness.

Mothers who know are willing to bear children. They honor sacred ordinances and covenants and adhere to gospel teachings. They nurture their children, helping them to grow in positive ways. They are leaders and teachers.

Mothers who know "do less." They permit less of those things that will not bear good fruit eternally, allow less media in their homes, less distraction, less activity that draws children away from the home and from the gospel.

They are willing to live on less to have more time at home, promoting family togetherness.

"Who will prepare this righteous generation of sons and daughters? Latter-day Saint women will do this, women who know and love the Lord and bear testimony of him." They should be the "very best in the world at upholding, nurturing and protecting families."
