Elder Henry B. Eyring

Council of the Twelve

Procrastination that leads Latter-day Saints to wait for "some day" to improve their spiritual lives carries a significant danger.

"It is that we may discover that we have run out of time. The God who gives us each day as a treasure will require an accounting. This day is a precious gift of God. The thought 'Someday I will' can be a thief of the opportunities of time and the blessings of eternity."

Scriptures plainly state that procrastinating good works and repentance may result in death with regrets. The Savior invites all to come to him now and to serve him without delay.

"A morning prayer and an early search in the scriptures to know what we should do for the Lord can set the course of a day. We can know which task, of all those we might choose, matters most to God and therefore, to us."

The temptation to delay service comes to people in all phases of life and most often involves either feeling that one has plenty of time to do the Lord's work later, or feeling that one has done enough and can now rest while others do the work. Both attitudes are wrong.

Those in difficult circumstances will find that as they serve the Lord, their lives will be blessed with increased strength to bear their burdens.
