Barbara Thompson biography

Family: Born June 13, 1952, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Wesley Peter and Fern Rymer (deceased) Thompson. Three sisters: Merlynn (Ray) Newbold, Janis (Douglas) Larsen, Kathryn Thompson. Two brothers: Andrew (Pennie) Thompson and Kenneth Thompson. Fourteen nieces and nephews; three great-nieces and nephews.

Education: Bachelor's degree in social work from BYU; master's degree from the University of Utah.

Church Service: Former member of Relief Society general board, former ward activities committee chairwoman, gospel doctrine teacher, ward Young Women president, Laurel adviser, ward Relief Society counselor, Beehive adviser and camp director, missionary in Germany (1975-1976).

Profession: Executive director of an international assessment center for abused and neglected children; has directed a number of state-level human and family services departments; serves as an official with Christmas Box International, a charity focused on abused and neglected children.
