Four General Authorities released during conference

Elder Earl C. Tingey was released from the Presidency of the Seventy and, along with Elder Sheldon F. Child, was released from the First Quorum of the Seventy. Elder Tingey and Elder Child were designated Emeritus General Authorities.

Elder Gerald N. Lund and Elder Robert R. Steuer were released from the Second Quorum of the Seventy.

Elder Jay E. Jensen was called to the Presidency of the Seventy in June and was sustained in the Saturday afternoon session of conference.

Elder Tingey was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy on Dec. 5, 1990. He was called to the Presidency of the Seventy on Aug. 15, 1996. He has also served as a regional representative and as president of the Australia Sydney Mission. A former corporate attorney, he was born in Bountiful, Utah, on June 11, 1934. His wife is Joanne Wells Tingey.

Elder Child was sustained to the First Quorum of the Seventy on April 5, 1998. He was sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy on April 6, 1996. He also served as an Area Authority and as president of the New York New York Mission. The former president of a home furnishings company, he was born in Ogden, Utah, on May 8, 1938. His wife is Joan Haacke Child.

Elder Lund was sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy on April 6, 2002. A former seminary and institute instructor and CES administrator and author of The Work and the Glory series, he was born in Fountain Green, Utah, on Sept. 12, 1939. His wife is Retta Lynn Stanard Lund.

Elder Steuer was sustained to the Second Quorum of the Seventy on March 31, 2001. He also served as president of the Brazil Sao Paulo North Mission. A former diagnostic physician and founder and chairman of Hema Metrics, he was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on Dec. 6, 1943. His wife is Margaret Black Steuer.
