General authorities sustained, released

Elder Jay E. Jensen was sustained as the newest member of the LDS Church's Presidency of the Seventy on Saturday, replacing Elder Earl C. Tingey, who was released.

Elder Jensen had been called to the position in June.

Originally from Payson, Elder Jensen is a former director of the Church Educational System's curriculum department and former president of the Colombia Cali Mission.

Elder Tingey and Elder Sheldon F. Child, who also was released from the First Quorum of the Seventy, were both designated as emeritus general authorities.

Elder Gerald N. Lund, a novelist and author of the historical fiction series The Work and the Glory, also was released, along with Elder Robert R. Steurer, from the Second Quorum of the Seventy.

Elders Jorge A. Rojas and T. La Mar Sleight were released as Area Seventies effective Nov. 1.
