Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve represented the Church at the World Congress of Families V, which convened Aug. 10-12 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Also speaking at the congress were Wendy Watson Nelson and Sheri L. Dew.
Sister Nelson holds a Ph.D. in family therapy and gerontology. Prior to her marriage to Elder Nelson on April 6, 2006, she was a professor of marriage and family therapy for 25 years. She taught for 12 years at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; for 13 years she taught doctoral and masters students at Brigham Young University. She is the author of several books.
Sister Dew, who is president and CEO of Deseret Book Company, is the author of several books and formerly served as a counselor in the Relief Society general presidency.
The World Congress of Families is an international network of pro-family organizations, scholars, leaders and people of goodwill from more than 60 countries that seek to strengthen the natural family as the fundamental social unit and the "seedbed" of civil society. The congress was founded in 1997. At the previous WCF, held in Poland in 2004, Elder Bruce C. Hafen of the Seventy represented the Church.
