"Troop 2010" was made up of 300 Eagle Scouts from the Orange County, Los Angeles Area and San Gabriel Valley councils, kicking off the BSA's celebration of a new century of the Boy Scouts in America. The organization was launched on Feb. 8, 1910, by Chicago publisher William Boyce and others.

Joining the Scouts who walked the parade route on New Year's morning was a Scout float titled "Celebrating the Adventure, Continuing the Journey."

Members of Troop 2010 were selected based on an application, a single-page essay and a personal interview with leadership of their local council.

The LDS Scouts chosen were: Scott Beatie, Mission Viejo California Stake; Everett Brown, Newport Beach California Stake; Jeffrey Dunn, Santa Margarita California Stake; Andrew Lang, Corona California Stake; Casey Powell, Placentia California Stake; Connor Restadius, San Clemente California Stake; and Cameron Sereno, Anaheim California Stake, Andrew Thompson, Long Beach 1st Ward, Long Beach California Stake.

Once selected to participate in the parade, the seven Scouts spent many Saturdays and time over Christmas break practicing and rehearsing for the event. Their New Year's Day began at 2:30 a.m. as they joined together with other Troop 2010 Eagle Scouts to travel to Pasadena and march with the float 5.5 miles down Colorado Boulevard in front of spectators along the route as well as a national and worldwide television audience.
