The Middle East/Africa North Area was not included in the chart of Area leadership published in last week's edition of the Church News. This area extends from Morocco on the west to Afghanistan on the east and includes the following countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
The area is administered from the Middle East Desk in Church headquarters in Salt Lake City. Two members of the Seventy, Elder Bruce D. Porter and Elder Paul B. Pieper, are currently assigned to the area.
The area includes one stake, four districts (including military districts in both Iraq and Afghanistan) and many small branches mostly consisting of members from other countries who are living or working in the area. There are no missions or proselyting missionaries in the area.
Members deploying to Iraq or Afghanistan can obtain information about the church organization in those countries by contacting the Military Relations office at 801-240-2286 or pst-military@ldschurch.org.
