New temple presidents

Six new temple presidents have been called by the First Presidency, with their wives called as matrons. They will begin service in November.

Manuel Araiz Chávez, 62, Frontera Ward, Ciudad Juárez Mexico North Stake, called as president of the Ciudad Juárez Mexico Temple, succeeding President E. Elwood Taylor Sr. President Araiz' wife, Elsa Del Rio Martínez Araiz, will serve as temple matron. Recently released as an Area Seventy, he has served as a stake president, bishop, counselor in a bishopric, elders quorum president and missionary. A retired institute director for the Church Educational System, he was born in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico, to Manuel and Soledad Chávez Araiz.

Sister Araiz, who serves as a Young Women Personal Progress leader, has served in a stake Relief Society presidency, ward Relief Society president, ward Young Women president and seminary teacher. She was born in Francisco I. Madero, Coahuila, Mexico, to Miguel Del Rio and Manuela Martínez.

Kenneth Stuart Armstrong, 72, Centurion 1st Ward, Pretoria South Africa Stake, called as president of the Johannesburg South Africa Temple, succeeding President Peter Bowen. President Armstrong's wife, Muriel Dorothy Dalldorf Armstrong, will serve as temple matron. He serves as a counselor in the Johannesburg South Africa Temple presidency. He has served as president of the South Africa Cape Town Mission and the South Africa Missionary Training Center. He previously served as district president and counselor, bishop, branch president, ward Young Men president, high councilor and institute teacher. A retired training consultant, he was born in Springs, Gauteng, South Africa, to Ernest Leslie and Phyllis Cora Futter Armstrong.

Sister Armstrong, an assistant to the matron of the Johannesburg South Africa Temple, served with her husband as he presided over the South Africa Cape Town Mission and the South Africa Missionary Training Center. She has also served as a stake Primary president, counselor in a district Relief Society presidency, district Young Women and Primary president, branch Relief Society president, temple ordinance worker and seminary teacher. She was born in Springs, Gauteng, South Africa, to Gustav Carl and Margaret Keen Dalldorf.

Bryce Dean Card, 67, Forest Heights Ward, Edmonton Alberta Bonnie Doon Stake, called as president of the Edmonton Alberta Temple, succeeding President Jack M. Holt. President Card's wife, Kathryn Watson Card, will serve as temple matron. He is a stake president, and has previously served as a patriarch, bishop, elders quorum president, ward Young Men president and stake clerk. A retired home renovations business owner, he was born in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, to LeRoy and Myrtle Lavon Webster Card.

Sister Card, who serves as a temple ordinance worker in the Edmonton Alberta Temple, previously served as a stake Relief Society president and as a ward Relief Society, Young Women and Primary president. She was born in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, to Leonard David and Laura Byrde McLean Watson.

Paul Wallace Castleton, 71, Naperville 1st Ward, Naperville Illinois Stake, called as president of the Chicago Illinois Temple, succeeding President Kenneth L. Robinson. President Castleton's wife, Ann Pingree Castleton, will serve as temple matron. He is a ward missionary and served as a temple ordinance worker in the Chicago Illinois Temple. He has previously served as high councilor, bishop, mission president's counselor, volunteer assistant temple recorder, stake Young Men president and as a senior couple missionary. Retired from marketing and management positions, he was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Paul Bitner and Lenore Bramwell Castleton.

Sister Castleton, who serves as a ward missionary and as a temple ordinance worker in the Chicago Illinois Temple, has previously served as a regional public affairs director, ward Relief Society president, senior couple missionary and gospel doctrine teacher. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Henry and Melba Nye Pingree.

C. Kent Hugh, 71, Cedar 16th Ward, Cedar City Utah Cross Hollow Stake, called as president of the St. Paul Minnesota Temple, succeeding President G. Kent Archibald. President Hugh's wife, Karen Louise Jameson Hugh, will serve as temple matron. He is an ordinance worker in the St. George Utah Temple, and has served as president of the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission, stake president, bishop, bishop's counselor and senior couple missionary. A retired institute director for the Church Educational System, he was born in Kanab, Utah, to Leslie and Della Higbee Hugh.

Sister Hugh, an ordinance worker in the St. George Utah Temple, served with her husband as he presided over the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission and as a senior couple missionary. She has also served as a counselor in ward Relief Society and Young Women presidencies and as a seminary teacher. She was born in Hiawatha, Utah, to Karl M. and Afton Anderson Jameson.

J. Mitchel Scott, 69, Guilford Ward, Greensboro North Carolina Stake, called as president of the Raleigh North Carolina Temple, succeeding President K. Max Stainback. President Scott's wife, Z. Sue Langston Scott, will serve as temple matron. He is a gospel doctrine teacher and a temple ordinance worker in the Raleigh North Carolina Temple. He has previously served as an Area Seventy, president of the Texas McAllen Mission, regional welfare agent, stake president, stake president's counselor, high councilor, stake Young Men president, bishop, mission president's counselor and stake executive secretary. He is a director of human resources and was born in Washington, D.C., to Kenneth LeRoy and Mary Eliza Whittle Scott.

Sister Scott, a Young Women teacher and a temple ordinance worker in the Raleigh North Carolina Temple, served with her husband as he presided over the Texas McAllen Mission. She has served as a stake Relief Society president's counselor, stake Primary president, ward Relief Society president and counselor and seminary teacher. She was born in Fairfield, Ala., to Willard Wilson and Mary Irene Brackner Langston.
