The free mobile phone application (app) that allows members to download the scriptures, general conference talks and other Church content is thanks, in part, to volunteers garnered through LDSTech.
Approximately 100 volunteers have contributed their time and talents to help create Church apps, according to a Church news release.
Through the LDSTech website, Church members fill out a talent profile which helps match them to projects that best fit their skills.
Tom Welch, a senior Church technical program manager, estimates that volunteers are responsible for half of the work that has gone into the creation of the Church's mobile apps.
The Mormon Channel, the Church's first app, launched in 2009. The Church now offers three other free apps: Gospel Library, LDS Tools and Scripture Mastery.
Since the launch, the apps have been downloaded more than 800,000 times. Books within the Gospel Library app, which allows users to download a trove of Church content including the scriptures and conference talks, have been downloaded more than 13 million times.
The Mormon Channel and Gospel Library apps will be released in Spanish and German in March. The Church is also looking to develop other apps that would benefit from volunteer efforts.
Users can download the Church's mobile apps from Mobile.lds.org, the Android Market, the Palm App Catalog or the iTunes app store.
