Kyiv Ukraine Temple receives national award

The Kyiv Ukraine Temple received first place for the best religious building constructed in Ukraine in 2010. The award was given by the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine on Sept. 12, 2011.

"In all spheres of human activity there is public recognition of the success engine that furthers progress. We recognize architecture and urban professionals and ordinary citizens, who are, in fact, the main force for improvement. So the construction industry must constantly be equal to their best representatives," said Anatoly Bliznyuk, Minister of Regional Development.

Awards were given in nine categories and among the places of worship erected during 2010 in Ukraine, experts awarded the Church first place for the temple building in Ukraine, Borschagivka Sophia, Kiev-Kiev district of Kyiv region.

The Kyiv Ukraine Temple was dedicated in August 2010 by President Thomas S. Monson and is the Church's first temple in the former Soviet Union (the Freiberg Germany Temple, the first temple in what was then Eastern Europe, was dedicated in 1985), and the 11th overall on the European continent. It serves some 31,000 members of the Church living in nine countries.

Temples are known for their inspiring architecture, quality of construction, meticulously maintained grounds and the peace and serenity they evoke. The Church currently has 136 temples in operation across the globe.
