Apostles attend inauguration

WASHINGTON D.C.

Elder L. Tom Perry and Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve were assigned by the First Presidency to respond to a formal invitation to represent the Church at the 57th Presidential Inauguration at the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. on Monday, Jan. 21. They attended with their wives, Sister Barbara D. Perry and Sister Mary G. Cook.

Elder and Sister Perry and Elder and Sister Cook also attended the prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday, Jan 22.

Crowds gathered to hear President Barack Obama's second inaugural address at noon on Jan. 21.

The event took place on Martin Luther King Day. Although the temperature was noticeably warmer than during President Obama's first inauguration, roughly 700,000 people showed up to the address, according to Reuters news outlet. Some 1.8 million attended President Obama's 2009 inaugural celebrations.

In addition, Elder Perry and Elder Cook attended to some Church business while in Washington D.C.
