Broadway star Santino Fontana, who appeared with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in July for the Pioneer Day Concert, will return to the Conference Center stage for the annual Christmas concert of the choir and Orchestra at Temple Square Dec. 11, 12 and 13.
The Sesame Street Muppets, who have been a part of many people's childhood for generations young and old, will be included on the concert bill.
“This year’s concert is going to be unlike any other,” said Ron Jarrett, choir president. “Joining Santino’s talents with the residents of Sesame Street will bring the childlike wonder of Christmas into our hearts and minds and remind us of the true meaning of the season.”
The carefully guarded announcement was made by the Muppets’ inconic character Elmo on Oct. 16, but exactly which of his furry colleagues will join him will be revealed weekly on the choir’s website, www.mormontabernaclechoir.org.
“Everyone has their favorite ‘Sesame Street’ character,” Brother Jarrett said, “and many of them will be participating in the concert. We recognize that the impact Sesame Street has had on many of our lives as children is incalculable.”
“Music has been a part of the fabric of ‘Sesame Street’ since the very beginning,” said Carol-Lynn Parente, senior vice president of content and executive producer of the program. “We are thrilled to be part of this annual holiday tradition and excited to sing with the world-renowned choir.”
Mr. Fontana is known for his recent roles playing Prince Hans in the Walt Disney feature film “Frozen” and for his Broadway performance as Prince Topher in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Cinderella,” for which he received a Tony Award nomination.
Seating for this year’s concert is available for those who are 5 years and older, a lowering of the age limit because the Muppets are being featured.
Complimentary tickets (four per household limit) are required and will be distributed through a random selection process. Patrons may register online at lds.org/events from Saturday, Oct. 18, at 12:01 a.m. through Monday, Oct. 27, at 11:59 a.m.
