Various religious leaders gathered at the Nevada Governor's Mansion Nov. 13 to pray for God’s mercy in regards to Ebola and its victims.
Elder George Marion Keele, an Area Seventy, spoke and prayed at the event organized by Rajan Zed, Hindu statesman and president of Universal Society of Hinduism.
A quartet of members of the Hot Springs Ward in Carson City, Nevada, performed “Sweet Hour of Prayer.”
Representatives of other Christian denominations, along with Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and other religious leaders also attended and offered prayers.
Prayers were given by representatives of various faiths, including the Church of God in Christ, the International Community of Christ, and the Roman Catholics, as well as Rajan Zed, a Muslim community president, a Buddhist priest, a Jewish rabbi, a Baha’i teacher, a United Methodist senior pastor and a Lutheran pastor.
Rajan Zed recognized the hard work being done by the medical field regarding the Ebola virus, but said it is the duty of religious leaders to seek God’s mercy. A worldwide, multi-faith prayer reaching out to God and displaying the unity and support in the international fight against Ebola will always help, he said.
U.S. Sen. Dean Heller recognized the prayer service by sending a signed certificate and saying, “Your compassion is commendable and greatly appreciated.”
The Ebola virus is a severe and often fatal disease that has taken the lives of thousands of humans in the ongoing international epidemic.
