PROVO, UTAH
The Provo Missionary Training Center is closing its “West Campus” facilities, having withdrawn the last missionaries housed and taught at the leased Raintree Apartments and BYU-owned WyView Park housing located about a mile west of the main MTC campus.
With the Church’s lowering of the minimum age of full-time missionaries to 18 years for young men and 19 for young women in October 2012, populations projects for the MTC went from highs of under 3,000 in 2011 and 2012 to nearly 8,000 the first year of the age changes.
To adapt to the rapid increase of missionaries needing initial training, the Church arranged for the “West Campus” facilities in Provo and opened a missionary training center in Mexico City. Increased use and operations in Mexico City, expansion and renovation of housing and teaching facilities on the Provo MTC’s main campus and a seasonal decrease in the number of arriving missionaries allowed the closure of the temporary Raintree and WyView accommodations.
