During a historic worldwide gathering, women, young women and girls filled the Conference Center to hear the words of Church leaders during the first-ever General Women’s Meeting on March 29.
President Thomas S. Monson presided at the meeting. Joining him on the stand were his counselors in the First Presidency — President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf; Elder Jeffrey R. Holland and Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve; and members of the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary general presidencies and boards.
The evening’s speakers included President Eyring, and the president of the Church’s women auxiliaries — Sister Linda K. Burton, Relief Society general president; Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women general president; and Sister Rosemary M. Wixom, Primary general president. In addition to speaking, Sister Oscarson conducted the meeting.
“We are grateful to be together as girls, young women, daughters, sisters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts and friends,” Sister Oscarson said in her opening remarks. “We hope you can feel our love for each of you no matter what your age and where you are located.”
A choir consisting of women, ranging in age from eight to 80 and representing more than 290 stakes within a 100 mile radius of the Conference Center, provided the music for the historic broadcast.
