President Barack Obama met with President Henry B. Eyring and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the First Presidency and Elder L. Tom Perry and Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles during his visit to Utah on April 2.

In a 20-minute visit at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City, President Obama praised the Church’s leadership role in seeking a balance between nondiscrimination and religious freedom, as well as the Church’s disaster relief and humanitarian aid efforts worldwide. Discussion focused on the importance of strong families and how families can benefit and improve the well being of a society. Church leaders expressed their appreciation for President Obama’s example that he and his wife provide through their healthy marriage and family life. The discussion also briefly touched on the topic of immigration.

President Thomas S. Monson did not meet with the President due to his need to preserve his strength for general conference, according to Church spokesman Eric Hawkins. However, President Monson did express his fondness of his visit to the White House in 2009 when he presented President Obama with the U.S. President’s personal family history.
