The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a new Relief Society general presidency and a reorganized Primary general presidency during the Saturday afternoon session of the 187th Annual General Conference April 1..
Sister Jean B. Bingham, Sister Sharon Eubank and Sister Reyna I. Aburto will oversee the Church’s Relief Society, one of the largest women’s organizations in the world. Under the direction of the First Presidency, the Relief Society presidency oversees the activities of all Latter-day Saint women ages 18 and over. These leaders travel frequently to help guide and support the women of the Church.
Prior to her call, Sister Bingham was serving as first counselor in the Church’s Primary general presidency. Sister Bonnie H. Cordon, who was the second counselor in the Primary presidency, was announced Saturday as the new first counselor. Sister Cristina B. Franco will be the new second counselor. The Primary presidency oversees the teaching of children ages 18 months to 11 years the gospel of Jesus Christ and helps them live its principles. These leaders serve under the direction of the First Presidency and travel frequently to help guide and support the children and their local leaders.
Relief Society General President: Jean B. Bingham
Sister Jean Barrus Bingham is the 17th general president of the Relief Society. At the time of her call she was serving as first counselor in the Primary general presidency. She also served on the general board of the Primary. She and her husband, Bruce, are the parents of two daughters and have five grandchildren.
Relief Society Presidency First Counselor: Sharon Eubank
Sister Sharon Eubank is the first counselor in the general presidency of the Relief Society. At the time of her call, Sister Eubank was employed as the director of LDS Charities, the humanitarian organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she continues in this role while serving in the Relief Society. She served on the Relief Society general board from 2009 to 2012.
Relief Society Presidency Second Counselor: Reyna I. Aburto
Sister Reyna I. Aburto is the second counselor in the general presidency of the Relief Society. She was born in Nicaragua to Noel Blanco and Delbi Cardoza and married Carlos Aburto of Mexico in the Jordan River Utah Temple in 1993. They have three children and two grandchildren. She served on the Primary general board from 2012 to 2016.
Primary Presidency Second Counselor: Cristina B. Franco
Sister Cristina B. Franco is the second counselor in the Primary general presidency. She was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She and her husband, Rodolfo, were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1978 and are the parents of three sons. At the time of her call, she was serving with her husband in the Argentina Resistencia Mission. She served on the Primary general board from 2005 to 2010.
