The day of Oct. 28, 2018, was one of celebration for Latter-day Saints in Chile as the country's second temple was officially dedicated.

The Concepcion Chile Temple is the 18th temple in South America and the 160th temple worldwide.

Additionally, it is the first temple dedicated by President Russell M. Nelson has dedicated since he became prophet and Church president in January 2018.

The temple district includes some 122,000 Church members in southern Chile and southwestern Argentina.

Twelve new temples were announced earlier this month at general conference. Besides the 160 operating temples, Church has another 41 temples either under construction or announced.
