On Jan. 17, 2019, the Church announced that the groundbreaking for the San Juan Puerto Rico Temple will take place on May 4, 2019, according to Newsroom.
Elder Walter F. Gonzalez, General Authority Seventy and president of the Caribbean Area for the Church, will preside.
The Puerto Rico temple was first announced on Oct. 7, 2018, by President Russell M. Nelson and the first renderings of the temple were released just a few weeks ago.

It is anticipated that the temple and an adjacent meetinghouse will take two years to complete.
This temple will be the first in Puerto Rico and the third temple in the Caribbean, after the dedication of the Port-au-Prince Haiti Temple in September 2019.
