New Mexican consul general to Utah visits Church leaders

‘The support of the Church is fundamental to many of the activities that we do,’ says Mexico’s new consul general in Utah

Church leaders, including three members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, welcomed Mexico’s new consul general to Utah in a reception on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Eduardo Baca Cuenca recently began his new assignment in Salt Lake City and was met by Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles at the Church Office Building on Temple Square, according to a news release published on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

“We’re grateful that you’re here,” Elder Christofferson said. “We’re pleased to have someone who has such broad and deep experience in government and diplomatic work. We feel honored by you and by your appointment.”

Baca replaces José V. Borjón, who left Utah after serving for five years in the same role. Borjón has now been assigned to work in Poland.

Elder Gerrit W. Gong and Elder Ulisses Soares, also of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, joined Elder Christofferson and various General Authority Seventies in welcoming Baca to the area.

Baca’s assignment covers Utah and parts of Wyoming. He comes into the role with three decades of experience.

“I look forward to having an excellent relationship with the Church and, of course, to continue the work that we do together,” Baca said.

Elder Christofferson told Baca the Church will be helpful to him and his office’s goals.

“We are grateful for your assignment, and we look forward to as much of the time that your government will permit you to be with us to enjoy together,” Elder Christofferson said. “Please look at us as a resource to help you succeed.”
