Video: Elder Cook, Sister Cook share what it’s like seeing the mantle of a prophet up close

Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Sister Mary Cook accompanied President Russell M. Nelson and Sister Wendy Nelson on the prophet’s recent visit to Central and South America.

In a Church News video, Elder Cook and Sister Cook share some of their observations from their travels with the prophet.

Read all the stories from President Nelson’s Central and South America Ministry.

“It is most remarkable when you see the mantle of a prophet,” said Elder Cook. “When he is out among the people, there’s a spiritual depth … you can just sense it. You can feel it.”

Sister Cook remarked on the faith of the Latter-day Saints who would come prepared to hear President Nelson speak. In some cases, members began filling the seats in the venue five hours before the devotional started.

Elder Cook also recalled the reaction of Latter-day Saints when the prophet would ask the congregations if he could speak to them in Spanish.

President Nelson’s desire to minister to members of the Church around the world shows his devotion to them, Sister Cook added.

“I think it’s a sign of how much he loves the members in this international Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” Sister Cook stated. “He wants to be with them, travel to them, see them the way he has — beautiful example.”

Being with the prophet up close and hearing from him first-hand, Elder Cook said, is a remarkable opportunity.

“What could be more precious than that — to have a witness and the spirit that this is the Lord’s prophet?” Elder Cook asked. “That’s very special.”
