The Church’s newest temple in South America will host visitors in Quito, Ecuador, starting this weekend and running throughout the rest of the month.
Elder Jorge F. Zeballos, General Authority Seventy and area president of the South America Northwest Area, was one of many Church leaders present on Tuesday, Oct. 11, as special guests and media were invited to get a first look at the temple.
“We’re honored to present this work with these [eternal] characteristics and purpose,” Elder Zeballos said.
The open house of the Quito Ecuador Temple runs Oct. 14-29, except Sundays, and will be dedicated in November. Ahead of the open house, the Church released new interior and exterior photos and video of the building. It also published a new website for those interested in learning more about the temple.
Members of the area presidency were on hand yesterday to help answer questions and share some of the Church’s beliefs. Elder Zeballos was joined by his counselors, Elder Jorge T. Becerra and Elder Rafael E. Pino and their wives.
The website templodequito.org features open house hours, a map of the temple’s location, a virtual tour of the temple’s surroundings, and a video explaining the purpose of temples.
According to the Newsroom for the Church’s South America Northwest Area, the last temple open house to take place in Ecuador was in 1999 when the Guayaquil Ecuador Temple was completed.
The temple in Quito was announced by President Thomas S. Monson in general conference in April 2016. The temple’s groundbreaking took place three years later in May 2019.
