Eleven youth artists from around Brazil recently met in a studio in the mountains of Minas Gerais to record the 2023 youth album in Portuguese.
On Dec. 31, the Church’s youth YouTube channel in Brazil — Jovens da Igreja de Jesus Cristo — premiered an hourlong special in Portuguese called “Som das Montanhas” (“Sound of the Mountains”) to release the album.
The video takes viewers behind-the-scenes as the singers arrive in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais, many of whom meet for the first time. They interact together in the recording studio and attend a painting class in the historic city of Ouro Preto. The video then shows individual interviews with each of the singers before the recording of their song.
“Som das Montanhas” features 11 songs in Portuguese.
João Daniel, a native of Minas Gerais, performs “Posso Tudo Em Cristo” (“I Can Do All Things Through Christ”) and “Fé” (“Faith”) on the album. He said in a post on the Brazil Area Newsroom’s Facebook page: “Studio time is sacred to us. There are moments of friendship, of personal connection with the message, with the music, with the Holy Spirit, in whom I believe and seek, and with the hearts of those who will listen.
“I loved meeting people I didn’t know and seeing my musical friends. Music has this power to break the barrier of time and space, causing all that musically stored energy to reach the hearts of thousands of people, bringing us closer and uniting us.”
The cover of the new album was chosen through a contest promoted on the Jovens da Igreja de Jesus Cristo Instagram account. Youth from all parts of Brazil sent their art inspired by the theme “faith,” which is also the name of the music sung by Daniel on the new album.
Of the song “Faith,” Daniel said: “I really enjoyed recording this song. On that day, I felt the desire to share with my friends what I was feeling while recording and my feelings about the message of this song. And I did that and it was a very memorable moment for me.”
