“Luz de las Naciones” (Light of the Nations), an annual celebration of Latin American culture hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is scheduled to take place in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m.
The announcement was made in an article on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
Now in its 21st year, the international event will feature a cast of 1,000 volunteer musical artists wearing traditional clothing and performing music and dances representing Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Panama and Peru, as well as Spain.
The theme for this year’s performance is “Nuestra Tierra” (“Our Land”).
Those participating are excited to return to the Conference Center, said Israel González-Nieri, “Luz de las Naciones” director.
“This year’s cultural event will feature new music and dances depicting not only the traditions and beauty of the land of our forefathers, but also how blessed we are to live in the promised land that God prepared for us long ago,” he said. “We will also celebrate the arrival of the first Latino settlers that came to this valley a century ago looking for a better life and the opportunities to continue to build the kingdom of God on earth.”
Last year’s event marked the 20th anniversary and a return to in-person performance after two years of virtual programs in 2020 and 2021 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
