Elder Stevenson, Elder Gong represent Church at U.S. presidential inauguration

The Apostles’ attendance marks more than 150 years of Church representation at the inauguration of a new president of the United States

Two Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints attended the second inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance on Monday, Jan. 20, in Washington, D.C.

Elder Gary E. Stevenson and Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles represented the Church at inauguration events and meetings surrounding the inaugural ceremonies, continuing a Latter-day Saint tradition “of supporting and celebrating freedom and civility and upholding the principles of the Constitution,” according to ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

“Being in Washington, D.C., at such a time as this is an honor,” Elder Stevenson said in the news release. “The enduring principles that have been the foundation of our nation are important guides for our personal lives, families and communities.”

Said Elder Gong: “We wish this administration and all those that serve this country in any capacity strength and wisdom for so great a cause. Our best wishes and heaven-sent prayers to all our local, national and world leaders at this important time.”
