On Sunday, May 14, Church leaders shared messages of appreciation and recognition on social media for the contributions of the mothers in their lives.

Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared gratitude for his wife of 60 years, Sister Harriett Uchtdorf, and for the special gifts, promises and blessings daughters of God possess.

“Never underestimate the power of your example and influence for good as you serve in your families, communities and church callings. Let me assure you that the Lord knows you. He loves you. He will bless you for your dedication to Him and His children.”

Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson taught of Mother Eve in a post on Facebook. President Johnson noted that after Eve’s choice in the garden, the scriptures teach that she “called upon the name of the Lord” as she tried to carry her mortal burdens.

“I love the example of Eve, and the legacy of righteousness she left me, and all of her daughters. As a mother of sons, daughter of God and disciple of Jesus Christ, I know that I can’t go at it alone, and I don’t need to, and I won’t. Choosing to be bound to my Savior, Jesus Christ, through the covenants I have made with God, ‘I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.’”

In a video post on Facebook, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles wrote of the reverence shown by Jesus Christ for His mother, Mary. “As each of us learns from and follows His example, we likewise will show love and genuine appreciation for our mothers and for the women who mean so much to us.”

Sister J. Anette Dennis, first counselor in the Relief Society general presidency, acknowledged that Mother’s Day can evoke many mixed emotions. “But regardless of our past or present circumstances, by virtue of our eternal divine destiny, we are all mothers, and all of us, as daughters of heavenly parents, can have so much influence for good in ways that are eternally important,” she wrote on Facebook.

Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles wished his wife, Sister Rosana Soares, and mother’s everywhere a happy Mother’s Day. “Throughout our courtship and marriage, Rosana has never failed to remind me that as we do our part, the Lord will bless us in tremendous ways. She taught our children with that conviction in mind, teaching them with love and patience, knowing that as we did our very best, the Lord would step in to help us,” he wrote.

On Facebook, Young Women General President Bonnie H. Cordon shared a little true-or-false game, noting her mother loves to ask questions and seek answers. “She is an example of a woman of God because of how she treasures her spiritual gift of seeking truth. And the most important truth she has learned?

“We are daughters of heavenly parents with limitless potential and divine worth.”

Primary General President Susan H. Porter shared a bit of the story of her paternal grandmother, Jeanette Liebrecht Holland, who put her 9-year-old child on a train by himself to escape Germany in 1939.

“I am grateful for my grandmother and for mothers all over the world who do hard things every day so that their children may have the opportunity for a better life,” President Porter shared on Instagram.

“On this Mother’s Day, may we remember and honor our mothers on both sides of the veil who paved the way for the many blessings we enjoy today.”
