This week on social: Leaders applaud ‘the Christlike service of our missionaries’

Sister Kristin M. Yee, speaking to young single adults of the Church, posted, “God also trusts you to be a part of this great work in the latter days.”

Elder Gary E. Stevenson, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, talked about his experience visiting the Brazil Missionary Training Center in a Facebook post on June 1. Speaking to the missionaries about Heavenly Father’s love for them, Elder Stevenson said, “He desires our ultimate success and eternal progression in this life and in the next.”

Missionary service was a common theme — but not the only topic — of social media posts from Church leaders this week.

On Instagram, May 28, Sister Kristin M. Yee, second counselor in the Relief Society general presidency, spoke about labels Church members are often prescribed when they are single.

“Labels or comparisons can limit how we see ourselves and our value and potential in the Lord’s kingdom.” Sister Yee said, “May we all have eyes to see one another and ourselves not through the lens of age or marital status but through the unifying lenses of covenant keepers, fellow disciples of Jesus Christ, friends, brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters of God.

Elder Ronald A. Rasband, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, expressed in a May 28 social media post his gratitude to those in his family who have chosen to serve missions. He said, “Missionaries, you are bringing the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ into many lives and are helping unite families for time and eternity.”

Elder Rasband also tweeted a video about this experience on the same day. He shared thoughts about his own grandchildren serving and the gratitude he has for them and “their dedication in serving the Lord.”

On May 26, Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson, asked sisters of the Church: “Have you ever felt stuck or like you’re not making progress?” She talked about what “practicing perfection” means and how Jesus Christ plays a part.

Elder Neil L. Andersen, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, posted a video on May 31 interviewing a grandson of his, Jason, about why he is choosing to serve a mission.

On May 29, Sister Amy A. Wright, first counselor in the Primary general presidency, shared a video of her son talking about his mission experiences. Of his difficult experiences trying to serve the Lord, Luke Wright said, “I noticed a parallel between my experience as a missionary and Nephi’s experience as he went to get the brass plates from Laban.”

In a Facebook post on May 31, Brother Bradley R. Wilcox, second counselor in the Young Men general presidency, shared an experience from his niece’s family about how they turned to Jesus Christ during a difficult move to another country.
