Sister J. Anette Dennis, first counselor in the Relief Society general presidency, posted on June 21, about her experience speaking at BYU Women’s Conference in May. “Millions struggle with mental and emotional health challenges,” said Sister Dennis. “One of the very difficult parts of these challenges is the stigma surrounding them and the harsh judgment by some that they are a character flaw or a sign of weakness or laziness.”
She continued, “The effects of mental and emotional illness are just as real and just as devastating as a physical illness or injury, but the effects can be less outwardly apparent than a broken leg or cancer.”
Though members suffer from mental health conditions, Sister Dennis offered, “Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our greatest source of relief.”
Elder Quentin L. Cook, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, also posted about the new “Preach My Gospel” edition on June 22: “An update to Preach My Gospel will allow us to improve our efforts to invite more friends across the globe to come unto Christ.”
