Sharing a witness of Christ with others

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints respond to an invitation from Young Women General President Bonnie H. Cordon

After Young Women General President Bonnie H. Cordon’s father told her some devastating news about his health, he told her something urgent. He said, “Bonnie, never give up an opportunity to testify of Christ.”

The plea felt more personal than bearing her testimony on the first Sunday of the month, or testifying of gospel truths in a lesson, or as a missionary speaking of Christ.

It seemed as though he was saying: “Bonnie, don’t let the world overtake you. Stay true to your covenants with the Savior. Seek to experience His blessings every day, and be able to testify through the Holy Ghost of His power and presence in your life,” President Cordon said in April 2023 general conference.

Recently, President Cordon shared her father’s words on social media and invited people to think of others who had testified of Jesus Christ. “Tag someone who has shared their witness of Christ with you,” she wrote on Facebook and Instagram.

Almost 250 people responded between the two social media platforms — tagging the names of friends, family members, missionaries and others — and often including a note or two about how that person has strengthened their own testimony or been an example to them of the Savior.

Myrna Bloom commented that her husband shares his witness of Christ.

Recently returned missionary Heidi Harmon tagged her missionary companions who are still serving in the Washington Seattle Mission. They are an “amazing example of Christ,” Harmon wrote.

Sister Rachael Sorensen, who is currently serving a full-time mission, tagged her parents and said, “Thanks Mom and Dad for showing me where to turn for help and strength when things get tough.”

Karen Hawkins wrote: “My beautiful friend, Kelly Pack Beck. She has the most amazing testimony I have ever heard. Just listening to her speak of the Savior can lift my spirits in an instant.”

Cami Williams tagged Alicen Allred and told her, “Your continued example of steadfast faith continues to inspire me.”

David T. Hinton said a few years ago he became acquainted with Terry and Kris Rix, who he said emulate the teachings of Christ in their lives. “Their love for others and willingness to serve and bless others is amazing,” he wrote. “They don’t just testify of Christ in word, but they do it in very deed.”

Pam Langton Wright tagged Celia Balderas and said: “You are always testifying of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you!”

And among the comments on Facebook was one from President Cordon’s husband, Brother Derek L. Cordon. She had asked that people tag someone who has shared a witness of Christ, and he responded: “Bonnie H. Cordon.”
