Video: College football recruit Walker Lyons on learning to ‘Trust in God’ after injury

Walker Lyons was injured in the first game of his high school senior year and had to put his trust in God during his recovery

Walker Lyons — a four-star football recruit in the United States — was just beginning his senior year of high school when he was injured. As a result, he missed his final high school football season to recover and rehab.

“I think my biggest disappointment for him was that literally, on that day, at that moment, I just felt he was finally at peace,” said Folsom (California) High School football coach Paul Doherty. “You know, his high school [career] was a whirlwind. It was not your typical high school experience, just being the national recruit that he was.”

Lyons, who fielded scholarship offers from 35 major programs across the country and was named Man of the Year at the All-American Bowl high school all-star game, has postponed playing college football to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This Church News video, titled “Trust in God,” highlights what Lyons learned from his injury.

“I have full faith in God and that everything will really work out the way it’s supposed to, if you put Him and His Son first,” he said.
