Full-time missionary from Idaho dies unexpectedly in New Jersey

‘Our prayers are with Elder Chappell’s family, friends and fellow missionaries during this difficult time,’ Church spokesman says

A full-time missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Idaho died unexpectedly Saturday, March 2, in New Jersey from a yet-to-be-determined medical condition.

Elder Mack Jared Chappell, age 19, of Sugar City, Idaho, was serving in the New Jersey Morristown Mission, having begun his missionary service July 10, 2023.

“Elder Chappell became unresponsive early Saturday morning, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful,” said Sam Penrod, Church spokesman.

“Our prayers are with Elder Chappell’s family, friends and fellow missionaries during this difficult time,” Penrod added. “May they each find solace and comfort in the Savior and His gospel as they remember this faithful missionary.”
