Church announces location of Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple, releases exterior rendering for Tampa Florida Temple

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released a site location for a new temple in Guatemala and an exterior rendering for a new temple in Florida.

The location for the Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple and the exterior rendering for the Tampa Florida Temple were published Monday, March 20, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple

Planned as a single-story building of approximately 10,787 square feet, the Huehuetenango Guatemala Temple will be built at 18 Avenida, Zona 4, El Terrero, Huehuetenango, Guatemala. An exterior rendering is expected to be released later.

President Nelson announced a temple for Huehuetenango less than six months ago, one of 18 new temple locations identified during the October 2022 general conference.

It will be the fifth house of the Lord in the country. The Guatemala City Guatemala Temple, dedicated in December 1984, was the first temple built in Central America and the fourth in all of Latin America. Guatemala’s other operating temple is the Quetzaltenango Guatemala Temple, dedicated in December 2011.

Two other temples are under construction — the Cobán Guatemala Temple (groundbreaking in November 2020) and the Miraflores Guatemala City Guatemala Temple (December 2022).

More than 280,000 Latter-day Saints comprising over 430 congregations reside in Guatemala, where the first Latter-day Saint missionaries arrived in 1947.

An artist’s rendering of the Tampa Florida Temple shows the house of the Lord — an edifice of approximately 30,000 square that will built at 4806 Bell Shoals Road in Valrico, Florida. The location was announced Oct. 31, 2022, with the 16.2-acre site property adjacent to an existing meetinghouse.

Over 164,000 Church members in more than 280 congregations are in Florida, where the Church has five temples in different stages. Dedicated and operating temples are in Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, with a temple in Tallahassee under construction and a temple in planning for Jacksonville.
