More readers than ever before can have immediate access to worldwide coverage of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the new Church News app. The app and TheChurchNews.com are now available in Spanish and Portuguese.

“As an international publication of the Church, it is our mission to provide timely, uplifting and inspiring content that connects readers with the Church and with one another,” said Sarah Jane Weaver, editor of the Church News. “Our new app and Spanish and Portuguese language editions help us accomplish this important goal. We are excited to make the Church News available to many more Latter-day Saints now and in the future.”

Burke Olsen, head digital officer of the Deseret News, also mentioned the excitement he feels about expanding the Church News’ global reach.

“For the first time ever, we’re making a concerted and consistent effort to offer the Church News to people whose first languages are Spanish and Portuguese,” Olsen said. “We hope to be able to increase that number of languages as the months and years go by.”

As “A Living Record of the Restoration,” the Church News serves as a source of inspiring stories of Church leaders and members across the globe. Readers also rely on the Church News for the latest information about Church announcements, general conference, callings and temples.

“The kinds of stories that are captured in the pages of the Church News and have been since 1931 are now more available, more readily accessible and easier to consume than ever before with the Church News app,” Olsen said.

The Church News app is simple to navigate and allows users to toggle between its English, Spanish and Portuguese versions. Users can view the most recent stories on the homepage, browse articles by topic or save articles for later using the bookmark function. Settings also include “Night Mode” for easy reading in the dark.

Plans for future iterations of the app include the ability to send alerts about breaking news and improvements to the overall user experience.

The app is free of charge and can be found on the App Store and Google Play.
