HEBER CITY, Utah — More than 600 smiling Latter-day Saints gathered on a freshly plowed plot of ground as President Nelson presided at the Saturday, Oct. 8, groundbreaking ceremony of the Heber Valley Utah Temple.
The glowing reds, oranges and yellows of the aspen trees’ leaves that surrounded the site suggested it is time to hunker down for the coming winter. But for President Nelson and many of the members present, this was a moment of excitement for something new to grow and take shape.

2. Elder and Sister Holland are featured in new video: ‘Live by the Spirit’

Sister Patricia Terry Holland, wife of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, served as a counselor in the Young Women general presidency from 1984 to 1986. During this time, Elder Holland was also president of Brigham Young University.

4. Members around the world react with joy and gratitude for 18 new temple locations

Many Latter-day Saints with ties to new the 18 temple locations reacted with tears of joy for forthcoming temple blessings. Four of the new temples — Pachuca, Tula, Toluca and Cuernavaca — will be in Mexico and each will be within 30 miles of the center of Mexico City, the country’s capital.
President Nelson was ordained and set apart as Prophet and President of the Church on Jan. 14, 2018, and has announced 118 temple locations during that time. As Church president, the rate of a temple announced is every two weeks. Or a rate of two temples a month during the just-under 57 months of his tenure.

5. Bishop Budge, Sister Yee and Sister Eubank speak at U.N. conference

Individuals, families and communities share a sacred duty to care for the earth, said Bishop Budge. Sister Yee was one of three participants in a panel titled “End poverty in all its forms everywhere,” and Sister Eubank participated in a panel titled “Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.” They were speaking at the United Nations’ International Academic Conference on the Sustainable Development Goals, held at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, Oct. 5-7. The conference was titled “Why It Matters.”

6. Season 4 of the Book of Mormon Videos debuts

The newest season of Book of Mormon Videos debuted Sunday, Oct. 2, at BookofMormonVideos.com with a new episode featuring the Savior’s ministry in the Americas nearly 2,000 years ago. An episode released Friday, Oct. 7, covers 3 Nephi 11-12 from the Book of Mormon where the Savior taught the doctrine of baptism and gave the power to baptize to His Apostles.

7. Two women called to serve with Church’s Military Advisory Committee

For the first time in its history, two women have joined the Military Advisory Committee of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Army Lt. Col. Sonie Munson, media operations chief for U.S. Northern Command, and Sister Andrea Wagenbach, who works for the U.S. Department of Defense, joined the 11-member committee that advises Church leaders on military matters.

8. RootsTech registration opens, October is Family History Month

Registration for RootsTech 2023 is now open at RootsTech.org. The global family history gathering will be March 2-4, 2023, with an in-person event in the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City to complement its online experience.

9. Volunteers begin Hurricane Ian cleanup in Florida

Hurricane Ian has left behind devastation and huge damages in Florida.
Church members spent the morning of Saturday, Oct. 1, volunteering in areas that were the most severely impacted by Hurricane Ian. The work last Saturday is only the beginning of what is expected to be several weeks worth of response.
