The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and Orchestra at Temple Square’s first stop on their multiyear world tour was in Mexico City, Mexico, and it included concerts June 17-18 in the National Auditorium, which seats nearly 10,000 people.
Guest artists — singer Adassa, singer Alex Melecio and radio host Mariano Osorio — shared their reactions to performing with the choir and orchestra in interviews the day after the first concert. This video shares some of their thoughts.
Adassa, known for her role in Disney’s “Encanto,” said, “When you’re standing in front of the choir, you feel like there’s angels behind you.”
She added, “I think that people felt the genuine nature of the Church of Jesus Christ giving them a gift.”
Melecio, who was master of ceremonies and also sang, called it “magical.” He added that one of the loudest ovations of the night from the audience was when he announced the three choir members who were from Mexico City — Hirepan Zarco, Dámaris Zarco, and Alberto Treviño Flores.
During the concert, Osorio shared a tender story of finding hope through his wife’s cancer diagnosis. In telling such a personal story, he said, “Something also changed inside me.”
Adassa and Melecio will be joining the choir and orchestra for their summer concerts on July 14-15 in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.
