Actor Dennis Haysbert said being in The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square’s 2024 Christmas concerts was “a no-brainer for me — and especially when I started to read the script.”
Haysbert narrated the experiences of Charles Mulli, who helps orphaned or abandoned children in his native Kenya, through the Mully Children’s Family. Mulli was abandoned as a young child, survived begging for food and eventually became a successful businessman and had a family. Then through spiritual experiences, he felt he needed to sell his businesses to help struggling children.
Haysbert and singer Ruthie Ann Miles joined the Tabernacle Choir, Orchestra and Bells at Temple Square and Gabriel Trumpet Ensemble as the featured guest artists at the 2024 Christmas concerts Dec. 19-21 and “Music & the Spoken Word” on Dec. 21. Mulli was a surprise guest at the concerts.
This Church News video, titled “Christmas Concert 2024,” shares about the concert and what each guest said about performing with the choir and orchestra.
Miles said she has listened to the choir and orchestra “for a very long time. …”
“I have admired the musicianship, everybody that I heard on the recordings. And I could never have imagined that one day I might be on the stage and performing with them with the additional gift of having my mom in the audience.”
Haysbert said of sharing Mulli’s experiences, “It is really hard to get through the story.
“But I love the feeling that comes over me when I do tell it, because I think everyone on the planet should hear stories like this because I believe it would bring everyone closer together.”
